Resume Basics – this is a tough one!

Today’s world really is so different and changing you need several different resumes to keep up with it!  While putting together this article I am finding that I may need to polish up mine to keep up with the current employment environment!

Points to consider:

Your resume is about you – you are selling yourself.  Its your marketing identity.  Focus on your future and what you can do.  Don’t focus on the past -!

Every article written about resumes (and cover letters) indicate that you must identify what job you are applying for and tailoring both the resume and cover letter to that position.  (guilty here of using the same resume over and over!).

Using the skills and experience that a job requires, tailor the resume to those strenghts that you have that match the required skills.

Describe your accomplishments in terms of documentable numbers – such as improved productibility by 25%.  Reduced waste by 10%, increased sales by 35%… etc.  You get the idea.

Use sites such as Linked in – which are professional sites to host your online resume.  You will remain professional and keep your personal information Re: Facebook) separate.  Though do be aware that facebook, myspace and other personal sites can be searched for information about you.  If you are not completely secured, you can be found by potential employers.

I think that this subject requires much more indepth discussion so we will continue on with the different types of resumes and the information that you will need to gather to put a truly dynamic resume together.

Watch also for our project management information site as well-!
